Abortion is now banned in at least ten states as laws restricting the procedure take effect following the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.

Another five states now ban abortion after six weeks of pregnancy

before many women know they are pregnant.

More bans are expected in the coming weeks, and in many states the fight over abortion access is taking place in courtrooms

where advocates have sued to block enforcement of laws that restrict the procedure.

About half of states are expected to allow abortion bans or other limits on the procedure to take effect

In many cases, courts still must determine the fate of these restrictions
